The Dog Aging Project is looking for doggy volunteers to participate in a long-term study on aging.
Starting in November, pet parents can nominate their canines for a clinical trial. The study, funded by the National Institute on Aging, is researching the genetic environmental factors that contribute to again.
The chosen dogs will be given rapamycin, a cancer chemotherapeutic drug used by humans. In low doses in mice, the medication has proven to extend lifespan and impart aging benefits.
Researchers hope the study will help vets learn information on how to better preserve mobility and cognition into doggo old age.
The data will be made public as an open science project. This allows for additional research an analysis by other researchers in years to come. You can complete a short survey to nominate your dog at DogAgingProject.org.
