Most of the people don’t pay much attention to what their dogs eat.

They prefer buying the best dog collars, and everything that makes their dog stand out. Buying dog accessories to make your pet dog look good is a good practice. ForTheFurry provides all types of accessories for pets.  However, paying attention to food is very important. One cannot overlook the food of the dog and maintain the good health of the dog at the same time.

When it comes to paying attention to the food of dog, it is always important to know how much should you be feeding your dog? It is also essential to determine what your dog eats. Here we are going to tell you about the foods that your dog should completely avoid in order to stay healthy

#1 Coffee and Caffeine

It is important for every dog owner to know how dangerous it is to feed the dog with coffee or caffeine. Coffee and Caffeine both contain a chemical substance which is known as methylxanthines. This substance is very dangerous for the health of the dog.

Although chocolates contain very less amount of methylxanthines, it should be avoided. The black chocolate contains more of this chemical while the milk chocolate has the least. When coffee or caffeine is consumed by the dog, it causes diarrhea, vomiting, seizures, and death. Therefore, make sure that you completely make your dog avoid these foods.

#2 Undercooked Meat

The meat which is undercooked or in the raw form contains a bacterium that is harmful not only for humans but also for animals. According to research, eating raw meat or raw egg causes many skin problems.

Apart from uncooked meat, the uncooked bones are also very dangerous for dogs. These bones are very hard and inflexible and can cause choking. They can also get stuck in the digestive track thereby causing many problems

#3 Salty Foods

The salty food increases the thirst in the dog due to which it also suffers from the problem of excessive urination. The sodium ion present in the salt also becomes responsible for the food poisoning in dogs when the salt is consumed through salty foods. You will see your dog experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, seizures when it consumes salty food.

For better health of your dog, make sure that you don’t give the salty food to eat. Even If it eats inadvertently, take it to the veterinarian.

#4 Medicines

If your dog happens to consume any medicine that it is not supposed to for it, it can cause serious damage to the health. So, try to keep your medications away from your pet

#5 Garlic

It may be very surprising for you because your doctor may have recommended you to give a little amount of garlic to your dog because of its effectiveness. Consuming garlic in a small amount is good for dogs. However, make sure the dog does not consume it in large quantities since it kills the red blood cells.

Moving with Pets: What You Need to Know

Moving tends to be stressful for most humans, and that same stress extends to your pets.

They may not know precisely what is going on, but they can sense that change is in the air. Whether you’re moving north to Hamilton or south to the states, it can be stressful for your pets, weather aside. You’ll likely see some signs of stress in your pet, and there are things you can do to make the transition as smoothly as possible.

Get Vet Records

Unless you’re moving down the stress or across town, it’s important to get copies of your pet’s health records from the veterinarian. This will help their next veterinarian establish the best standard of care based on your pet’s past and current health. It’s wise to get a checkup a couple of weeks before the big move to make sure they are well enough to travel. If you’re traveling by plane, check with the airline to see if you need to provide a certificate of health before your animal can board.

Prep for the Trip

Preparing for a trip for your pet is similar to preparing to go on a trip yourself. You want to make sure your pet is comfortable on the journey. You will want to bring enough food to last the entire trip plus a few extra days in case you’ll be living in a hotel for a bit or anticipate not making it to the pet store as soon as you arrive at your new home. Here are some other items to consider bringing:

  • Containers or bowls for food and water
  • Clean drinking water
  • Carriers/kennels if needed
  • Leash and harness
  • Dog/cat bed
  • Dog/cat toys
  • Puppy pads for dogs
  • Litter and travel litter box for cats
  • Treats to give in between meal times and calm pets
  • Any pet medications

One tip to keep pets comfortable emotionally is to put a shirt, towel, or another item in your pet’s bed, carrier, or kennel. Your scent will make your pet feel more comfortable and safe.

Practice Makes Perfect

If your pet is not used to being in a carrier or kennel, it’s best to help your pet become more comfortable with it. Forcing your animal to spend any time an enclosed space will add to their stress, and there are plenty of tips to help them become familiar and feel safe in that space. Most of the tips you see for dogs are effective for cats.

Create a Safe Space for Moving Days

Moving days are the most stressful days for your pet during the moving process. There’s lots of commotion in the home, new people coming in and out, and items being moved. To make sure your pet doesn’t run away because a door was left open, create a safe space for them in the home where they can be away from everything going on.

Pick a room that you can clear out and dedicate to your pet. Place their favorite toys, a comfy bed, food, and water in the room for them. Some animals may be ok with just a litter box or puppy pad, but you may need to plan times to let them out to relieve themselves you don’t have a mess to clean up after everything is loaded up. You can do the same thing when you arrive in your new home.

Stick to your Routine

While traveling and establishing your family in the new home, try to keep your pet on the same routine. Feed them and let them go to the bathroom at the same time each day. This might mean you need to make more pit stops on a drive than usual. For dogs, this means if you should continue daily walks if that is part of the routine.

When traveling by plane, take your animal into the bathroom occasionally to see if they need to relieve themselves. If you need a layover, try to pick an airport that has animal relief areas. Otherwise, use a family restroom to let

“Our data shows that the next generation of pet owners are using different methods and references to determine a moniker for their furry family members.”

“Luna,” Latin for the word for “moon,” has grown in popularity among pet owners since the publication of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, which featured the free-spirited character “Luna Lovegood.”

The top five most common puppy names in the U.S. overall, based on Nationwide’s pet insurance database are:

Pets can make an impression on every member of the family, but the bond between a child and a pet can become a special one with lifelong effects.

From increased physical activity to a positive impact on confidence and social skills, there are many ways younger family members can benefit from growing up alongside a furry friend.

#1 Increased Physical Activity

Whether taking a walk or playing fetch, pets provide unique opportunities for children to engage in physical activities, both indoors and out. As a bonus, encouraging children to expel energy alongside their pets can tire out both rambunctious parties, which can benefit the whole family.

#2 Empathy and Companionship

No matter what may be going on in a child’s life, a pet can be there through highs and lows as a constant friend. Research shows a pet can help reduce stress and moderate its impact. Having a companion animal like a cat or dog may provide the secure attachment and emotional support a child needs. This impact can also be seen through the CESAR brand’s First Day Friends program, which celebrates the benefits of the human-animal bond in the classroom.

#3 Improved Social Skills and Self-Esteem

Kids with pets tend to have greater self-esteem, less loneliness and enhanced social skills, according to a study from the WALTHAM™ Centre for Pet Nutrition. Moreover, simply owning a pet can help facilitate conversation between children who may find social settings difficult, ultimately learning to form bonds and friendships with their peers.

#4 Responsibility

Pet ownership can help teach kids about responsibility and caring for another living being. Feeding, cleaning, walking and grooming are all activities that appropriately aged children can do with the help of an adult. With single-serving dog food options, it can be easy to teach children about their pets’ mealtime routines, including how much and how often to feed them.

Can Dogs Make You Happy? 5 Ways Pets can Improve Mental Health

Pet ownership can have a positive effect on people, including those who may be struggling with mental health.

From minimizing loneliness and stress to aiding in social situations, pets can truly go above and beyond for their human companions.

“Millions of people are affected by mental health disorders across the U.S., so when a doctor recommends a life with a pet, he or she is truly writing a prescription for a happier, healthier life,” said Jam Stewart, vice president of corporate affairs at Mars Petcare.

“We created the BETTER CITIES FOR PETS™ program, which highlights the importance of human-animal interaction and how pet-friendly spaces can help ensure people and their pets can live their best lives together.”

#1 Combat Loneliness

Loneliness can take many forms, whether it’s caused by increasingly demanding careers or the heightened impact of social media, and surveys suggest that for those who are able, getting a pet can help. More than half of pet owners said getting a pet gave them a new sense of purpose. Preparing to tackle the day ahead can be easier with your furry friend at your side.

#2 Make Larger Social Circles

Pets can help create social bonds between people. Pet owners tend to make more friends in their communities than non-pet owners, because pets increase friendliness, helpfulness and trust. Whether it’s on a walk around the block or in an active dog park, furry friends are often up for meeting someone new, which provides a way to break down social barriers and increase your circle of pet-loving friends.

#3 Help with Stress Management

It’s been shown that people with pets may be better able to deal with stress. Not only do pets provide greater self-esteem, enhanced social skills and an increased sense of empathy, pets can be beneficial in a wide range of therapeutic and institutional settings in animal-assisted therapy.

#4 Feel Safer

Not only do people who walk their dogs get more physical activity on average than their non-dog walker counterparts, they also feel safer in their neighborhoods. Bringing your fur pal on a walk is akin to the “buddy system” and can help you feel more secure in your surroundings.

#5 Learn Valuable Lessons

Taking care of dogs and cats prepares people for increased responsibilities as they get older. From childhood through adulthood, pets can provide life lessons like the importance of respecting boundaries and enjoying life’s big and small moments.
