7 Comfiest, Coziest Dog Hoodies for Fall (Dog Sweater Size Chart)

0

dog sweater hoodie

If you live somewhere that gets a little cool during these coming months, you may consider getting your dog a sweater.

Many dogs are fussy with clothing, so picking a comfortable and cozy hoodie is the only way he’ll wear it.

In this post, we’re going over how to measure your dog with a sizing chart and how to pick the perfect fall dog hoodie.

Dog Sweater Size Chart and Dog Hoodie Size Chart

When you’re purchasing a dog sweater, it can be difficult to choose which size. To be the perfect sweater, it shouldn’t be tight-fitting and having it too loose doesn’t have the same cuddly effect.

Although your dog may be considered a small, medium or large breed, that doesn’t necessarily indicate which hoodie you should buy. Sizes can vary by manufacturer so it’s best to check the size chart of the company you’re buying from. Use a tape measure to find your dog’s size an compare it against their chart. If you don’t have a fabric tape measure, you can use a string and cut it where the ends meet. Then, measure that string against a ruler or regular tape measure.

If they don’t have a size chart, read the reviews to see which sizes fit which breeds. If you’re not sure if you’re buying the correct size, make sure the site you’re buying from has a return policy.

If you order from Amazon Prime, exchanging items is actually really easy. Simply ask customer service to email you a return shipping label. Package your dog hoodie for fall up and ship it off. Then, wait for your pup’s true size to come in.

7 Cozy and Comfy Dog Sweaters and Hoodies

An Old Man Sweater

dog sweater hoodie

Doesn’t this cute sweater remind you of an old man? Unlike some other sweaters in this post, this one covers the front legs (but not the back ones). It can provide some extra warmth during the cool months, but if your dog is fussy with sweaters, one that covers his legs may not be the best option. It comes in 3 colors.

Get the Old Man Dog Sweater for $13.

Navy Dog Sweatshirt

dog sweater hoodie

This cute little dog sweatshirt comes with a hood to cover your dog when it’s raining or snowing. Luckily, the company provides a detailed dog sweater size chart, so you can be sure to choose the right one.

Get the Navy Dog Sweatshirt for $11.

Fall Red Plaid Dog Sweater

dog sweater hoodie

Isn’t this the perfect fall-ready sweater? It comes in sizes fit for a small pup or a large retriever. The company notes that they aren’t US sizes, so make sure to measure your canine before buying! What I love about this one is that you probably already have some red plaid in your closet. That means you can wear it on your next walk and be matching besties!

Get the Red Plaid dog sweater for $17.

Adidog Sweats

dog sweater hoodie

Although this sweater is just adorable, it would be even cuter if you have a matching Adidas tracksuit. It comes in every size to fit every dog and with a variety of colors. Since there’s a ton of reviews for this one, we recommend reading and looking at the pics them to find out which size would fit your pup.

I have this suit for my dog and it’s a little trickier when it comes to sizing because it’s a onesie piece. So, if you have a dog with a long body like mine (think sausage-shaped breeds), you may need to exchange it once to find the right fit. But as we said above, exchanging on Amazon is a breeze so it shouldn’t be an issue.

Get your dog an Adidog Tracksuit for $10.

Waterproof Jacket Sweater

dog sweater hoodie

If you live in a city where it snows or rains a lot, this sweater is perfect for the wet weather to glide off. The jacket is reversible so one side is waterproof and the other side is more like a sweater and perfect for fall months.

Get the Reversible Dog Sweater Jacket for $21.

Knit Dog Sweater

dog sweater hoodie

My dog loves knit sweaters the most—the material feels nice on him and adds a little warmth for when you’re going outside. This one comes in so many shades to suit your dog’s personality or perhaps to match the season. The shade of yellow is in style this fall whereas the bright red would be festive for the holiday season.

Get a Knit dog sweater for $17.

BOO Pup Sweater

dog sweater hoodie

If you’re a Halloween-lover, you’re going to want this one for your dog. It comes in both purple and black and features the word “BOO” with a spider. The sweater is comfy enough for him to wear around the house, yet stylish enough for him to show off on Halloween.

Don’t you hate it when your packages come late?

Well, they won’t if this pup is delivering!

In the cute dog video below, a pup wearing a hilarious dog costume runs to her owner, making it look like she’s in a hurry to deliver a package.

You’re doing a great job, pal. We think you’ll secure the job.

P.S. You can get the same costume here.

If you do order this UPS dog costume on Amazon, remember to size your dog correctly. Too many people assume their dog’s size is their breed size. Or the size that they regularly purchased. However, since it varies by brand by item, always measure to be sure. This is easiest done using a tape measure. If you don’t have one, use a string and put it against a ruler or other measure to be accurate. Make sure to compare the size to the specific dog costume’s chart!

Remember the TY Beenie Babies? They were so cute—and so is your dog. So why not make him a Beenie Baby for Halloween? All you need is red ribbon, cardboard, paint and only a tiny bit of artistic talent. The easiest way to make the tag inside is to make it in a Word document and print it out. Look at some Beenie Babie tags for inspiration and put your own spin on it!

Undercover Dog Cops

All you need is a sweater—which you probably already have! Then, put it over your dog’s head whenever you want him to look like a tough undercover cop.

Not the fanciest costume—but it’s hilarious! If you’re crafty, you can make your own poop emoji smile dress, or you can just use a brown fabric or t-shirt. You can find poop plush toys at dollar stores or other specialty stores. If you’re in a pinch, you can also get one on Amazon with same-day shipping. Once you have it, attach it to a headband or stretchy elastic and your pup will be a party hit!

If you have a black dog, you can simply buy some white dog hair dye spray (made specially for dogs!). Spray a line down his back and he’s very clearly transformed into a skunk! To make it even more realistic, let him roll in something super disgusting on Halloween (just kidding, you’ll regret this).

Skeleton

Another spray paint option! If your dog is black, you can use your artistic talent to create a skeleton on his coat. Such a good idea! Just remember to use spray paint made for dogs. Also, keep it away from his eyes and be extra careful if you’re doing a face design as the above picture shows.

3 Delicious 3-Ingredient Easy Pumpkin Dog Treats for Fall

0
pumpkin dog treat recipe

diy easy pumpkin dog treat recipe

As soon as fall rolls around (or, let’s be real, as soon as September hits)…

…everything is about pumpkins.

Pumpkin décor, lattes and food.

But what about pumpkin dog treats?

Allow your best pal to get in on the cozy fall action with homemade pumpkin dog treats.

Even if you’re reading this and it isn’t fall, canned pumpkin is pretty much always easy to find. And, without added ingredients, it’s really healthy for your dog!

The best part is that all of these recipes only require three ingredients and are super easy to make (the first one doesn’t even require baking!). Even better? Since many require the same ingredients, you probably have the ingredients in your home to make all three!

Three 3-Ingredient Pumpkin Dog Treats

Before we jump into the recipes, we have a few things to mention.

Pumpkin Puree vs. Canned Pumpkin

There’s a difference between pumpkin puree and pumpkin pie filling or canned pumpkin. Unlike the others, pumpkin puree is pure without any added spice. This is the one you need. Dogs can be allergic to some spices used in some brands and he doesn’t need the added sugar. These recipes are so delicious that he really doesn’t need that extra flavor!

Soy Butter

You can substitute soy butter for peanut butter or any other type of butter you usually give your dog. Since I’m allergic to nuts, I chose soy butter. Unless your dog is allergic or has a sensitivity to soy products, it’s a healthy choice. However, as with any butter, it’s high in fat, so be mindful of how many treats you feed your pup pal.

Use Cookie Cutter or Knife

If you have seasonal or dog-themed cookie cutters, you can use them on these recipes. However, you don’t need them. Simply use a knife to cut the dough into your desired shapes. That can be larger rectangles or small, mini-treat size. The size of your treat will affect the bake time, so be sure to monitor it carefully throughout the cooking time. As always, you can customize the treat size to your dog’s breed. For example, a bigger bread may eat a whole regular-sized pumpkin ball, while it could be an entire meal for a little runt. So, for small breeds, feel free to make them smaller so they’re a snackable size!

Make It Into a Cereal

If your dog has a hard time chewing, you can use this method to soften the treats up. It’s also a great way to add variety to the treat. For example, sometimes my dog loves a crunch treat. But I noticed that when I add liquid to his kibble recently, he gobbles it up. If you want to try this, make treats into small shapes. Then, add the desired amount of treats into a bowl. Add in a bit of water or broth and stir. This is a perfect way to spice up his breakfast!

Storing

You can store all of these treats in an airtight container or a sealed plastic bag. If you’re making multiple batches, you can store them in the freezer for months. The first recipe needs to be stored in the fridge.

Doubling Recipes

If you want to make more dog treats, simply double or triple the recipe. I like to keep the batches small so that they stay fresh and since I only have one small dog, he can’t have that many before they go bad. Also, if you keep batches small, you can make all 3 of these treats to see which your dog likes best. Since they all contain similar ingredients, it won’t be too much extra work. But if you want to double or even triple it, you can use this super easy calculator.

#1 Dog Pumpkin Balls

These are so easy that they don’t even need to be baked. Simply mix, mold and store in the fridge. Remember to make the balls an appropriate size for your dog so they don’t swallow it whole. For this recipe, I used steel cut oats because they’re less processed. However, I would make it again with regular rolled oats because they’re easier to process and digest raw. This recipe is so easy to customize to your dog’s size. For smaller pups, keep the balls tiny enough so that it’s a snack rather than a meal.

Dog Pumpkin Balls

A no-bake pumpkin and soy butter treat for good boys only.

  • 1 c. Oats ((I used steel cut))
  • 1/3 c. Pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 c. Soy butter
  1. Grind oats in a food processor (it’s okay if they’re still a bit solid if your dog likes crunch).

  2. Add in pumpkin puree and soy butter and blend until smooth.

  3. Use hands to roll into small balls (smaller for smaller dogs). Store in fridge.

#2 Pumpkin Dog Treats

You probably already have all these ingredients in your kitchen. Whip them up in under 5 mins for your dog to enjoy this season. These typically turn out a little puffy which can give your dog some added variety in his texture taste testing.

Best Dry Food for Dogs: Pro Tips + 5 Options

0
best dry food for dogs

best dry dog foods

When it comes to dog food, the choices are overwhelming.

Every brand claims to deliver the nutrients your dog needs. So which are actually healthy and how can you tell?

In this post, we’re going over what to look for when shopping and options for the best dry food for dogs.

What to Look for in a Dry Food for Dogs

The #1 thing to check when you’re shopping for dry dog food is the ingredient list and label. Here’s a simple fact that will help: ingredients are listed in order of their weight in the product. That means the ones at the top of the list are more prominent and the ones at the bottom make up less of the food. So, you’ll want to see the healthy, protein foods at the top and any lesser healthy ingredients (if any) at the bottom.

With that in mind, here’s what you should look out for:

  • Animal Protein. The first ingredient you should see on the ingredient list of a best dry food for dogs is the protein type. It should be labeled as to what animal it came from—chicken, lamb, beef, duck, turkey, etc. If it lists something like “meat” instead of specifying which type of meat, there’s really no way to tell. Usually, this is the case when the mystery meat is so low-quality that it’s better not to be specific and scare away the consumer. Watch out for that!
  • Animal Protein Meal. Usually, when an animal protein is first on the list, it’s followed by an animal “meal” which can be a mixture of meat, skin, tissue and more. This helps amp up the protein content. Again, it’s best if the type of meal is specified. However, a dry food’s protein source shouldn’t just be meal; there should be an actual animal meat, as discussed above.
  • Vegetables or Fruits. Fruits and veggies provide vitamins and nutrients necessary for dogs. Sometimes, the ingredient will list a specific part of a vegetable rather than the whole version. This is usually okay as long as it’s fulfilling your dog’s requirements.
  • Whole Grains. Just like us, dogs need some whole grains in their diet. Check out which type the brand uses and evaluate whether it’s a healthy form.

In addition to what you should look out for, here’s what you want to avoid:

  • Unspecified protein sources (i.e. “meat)
  • Unspecified fat sources (i.e. “animal fat”)
  • Artificial colors or flavors
  • Added sweeteners

The best dry food for dogs tend to have natural forms of preservatives. Although this is a good thing, natural preservatives tend to last a shorter amount of time. For this reason, it’s important to check the best before date before buying, particularly with high-quality brands. If you’re expecting the bag to last a few months but it expires in two, you’ll waste the product, so be sure to look.
