How to DIY Paw Print Magnet: Crafts for Dogs

This paw print magnet is the perfect piece to infuse your kitchen with dog love. Customize the paint colors to suit your décor. Just be sure your dog’s painty paw doesn’t run off! Also a great crafts for dogs option if you’re looking to make personalized gifts.

Step 1: Gather Supplies

To make this magnet crafts for dogs idea, you’ll need:

  • Mini canvas magnets (I got mine at the Dollar Tree!)
  • 2 different colors of paint
  • Paint brush
  • Dog paw
  • Newspaper and paper towel

You can buy mini canvas magnets at the craft store or online. For the cheapest spot, I got mine at the dollar tree.

Step 2: Paint Canvas

Paint the canvas your chosen background color. This color should contrast from the one you’ll use for your dog’s paw print. Let dry.

Step 3: Paint Dog Paw + Press on Canvas

This step is the tricky part. It’s easiest if your dog is small. For big breeds, you might want a second pair or hands to ensure there’s no mess. Prepare the space with a lot of newspaper on the ground. You can also do it outside. You’ll also want a few wet paper towels nearby to clean your dog’s paws. Remember that they can run all over the place and create a mess, so you’ll want to be prepared and in control!

Dip a paint brush into paint and paint your dog’s paw. Immediately press onto canvas magnet. Try to hold their paw and guide it toward the canvas to make a firm imprint. Keep repeating until canvas is filled. Add more paint to your dog’s paw if necessary.

It’s okay if it’s messy or your dog’s paw “swipes.” Remember that this is your dog’s art, it doesn’t have to be perfect. You can also use a finer paintbrush to define the paw prints later. (I didn’t do this but you could!).

Wipe off your dog’s paw with wet and dry paper towel. Let their painting dry.

Step 4: Show Off

Show off your dog’s masterpiece. Just as you would a kid’s artwork, proudly display the magnet on your fridge for all to see.
