DIY Dog Lick Abstract Painting | Dog Activity | As Seen On TikTok

DIY Dog Craft Painting: Dog Activities Indoor: DIY Dog Mom Gift

TikTok gives people a lot of idiotic ideas but not the canine content is worth watching.

The viral dog painting challenge has dogs thanking the social media gods for an oppawtunity to eat peanut butter.

Your dog will gladly participate. And you’ll love the outcome.

This DIY dog lick painting is so fun to make! And even more special to keep furever.

The best part is you’ll only need a few things: a canvas, paint, Ziplock bag and peanut butter.

Here’s how it works: You put paint splotches on a blank canvas. You put said canvas into a Ziplock bag. Your spread peanut butter on top of the bag and let your dog lick it off. As your dog licks the butter, the paint underneath it shifts.

What you’re left with is a beautiful, one-of-a-kind abstract painting!

You can customize your painting as you wish. We’ll show you how to make a simple white version, or a neon black one.

Keep reading to learn how to make a DIY dog lick abstract painting.

Steps to Make a DIY Dog Lick Abstract Painting

To get started, you’ll want to protect your floor. The Ziplock bag should protect paint from leaking out. But in case it does, it’s a good idea to have something on the floor in case. Lay out newspaper or an old sheet/t-towel. I was thankful I did this!

White/No Background: Decide the canvas design you want to make. If you want to fully cover the canvas in paint, keep it white.

Black Background: Or, you can paint the background black for a different style. Let dry.

Paint Dots: Select a variety of paint colors. Squeeze the bottle onto the canvas to make a variety of different colored dots. How many dots you make is up to you! A lot of splotches means it will cover the entire canvas if your dog licks a lot. Fewer splotches means less color (great for bright colors on a black painted background canvas).

Place Into Bag: Carefully place the painting into your Ziplock bag. Try to place it into a corner so it’s easy to tape in the next step.

Tape Bag: If your bag is bigger than your canvas, tape the extra plastic on the back on the canvas. This restricts the licking area to the canvas only, making sure your dog actually moves around the paint beneath.

Peanut Butter: Spread any type of dog-safe nut butter on the Ziplock bag.

Lick: Your dog’s favorite part! Have them lick the Ziplock bag, moving the paint underneath it. Let them continue until they’re finished.

Display: Take out of the plastic bag and let dry. Proudly display and tell everyone your dog is pupasso 🎨

How to Make Dog Lick Abstract Painting

DIY Dog Lick Abstract Painting

A fun creation to make and keep for a lifetime. From the viral dog TikTok challenge.

  • Paint ((various colors))
  • Canvas ((size of your choice))
  • Ziplock Bag ((big enough to fit the canvas inside))
  • Tape
  • Peanut Butter
  • Newspaper or an old sheet or t-towel ((to avoid accidental paint spillage onto floor))
  1. Prepare space with newspaper or an old sheet/t-towel on the floor

  2. Optional: Paint background color if you want it to be seen

  3. Squeeze different colored paint bottles to create dots on the canvas

  4. Place canvas into Ziplock bag, preferably toward one side, so it’s easy to tape

  5. To restrict the “licking” area to the canvas only, tape the extra bag plastic on the back of the canvas.

  6. Spread dog-safe nut butter onto the plastic bag.

  7. Let your dog lick, moving the paint underneath.

  8. Take out of the plastic bag and let dry.

DIY Homemade Dog Paw Print Christmas Ornaments | FurParent Keepsake

paw print ornament

One way to get your dog involved with the holidays is to make a homemade dog Christmas ornament.

In this post, we’re giving you the steps to DIY your own paw print decoration.

You probably already have the ingredients in your kitchen. With that and some decorating supplies, you’re all set to make a beautiful paw print keepsake that will last for years to come.

Homemade Dog Paw Print Christmas Ornament

If you want to make an ornament the easiest way, you may consider buying a paw print Christmas ornament kit, which includes everything you need.

For true DIYers, here’s the full instructions.

DIY Homemade Dog Paw Print Christmas Ornaments

A recipe for a basic paw print mold that you can use as a Christmas ornament. Decorate to suit your pup's personality.

  • 1 c. Flour ((a bit extra if dough is too sticky))
  • 1/2 c. Hot water ((not boiling))
  • 1/2 c. Salt
  • An object to create the shape of the ornament (cup, coaster, etc.)
  • Ribbon to hang the ornament
  • Paint, glitter, rhinestones, glue gun, white glue and anything else you want to decorate it with
  1. Combine the flour, water and salt. Knead on a floured surface until it forms a ball.

  2. Using a rolling pin (or a glass if you don't have one), roll out the dough so that it’s flat. About a fourth of an inch thick will work.

  3. Press your object into the dough and take off the remaining dough around it.

  4. Press your dog’s paw into the dough. If you have a big dog, transfer the dough onto a plate and put the plate onto the ground for her to step into. If you have a little dog, just pick her up. I found that guiding his paw from the heel to the toes makes the best imprint. If the imprint isn't deep enough, use your finger or another small object to pat down the imprint more. It may not look that noticeable, but once you paint it, it will look great.

  5. Make a hole at the top of the ornament using a pencil, straw or another object.

  6. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place your ornaments on it.

  7. Bake for around 2 – 2 hours and 45 mins at 225F (107C). When they're finished, they should be completely hard but not browned. This may take a little more or less time, depending on your oven.

  8. Once cool, decorate with paint, glitter, markers or whatever your heart desires. One simple way to decorate it is to paint the paw imprints.

  9. Put your ribbon through the hole and hang.

  10. Hold your dog up to the ornament and be like "that's your paw!!" (okay, maybe that's just me).

Decorating Tips for Paw Print Ornament

  • I first painted the entire ornament white.
  • Then, I painted the edges around the paw pads to make it easier.
  • You can paint the nail imprints if you’d like too, but I didn’t.
  • If you’re using sparkles on the paw print, use a paintbrush to outline the print with white glue. Then sprinkle the sparkles on top. Shake the extra sparkles off the ornament.
  • If you’re using sparkles, you can seal them using Mod Podge or by creating your own (mix 4 oz. water with 8 oz. white glue).
  • If you want, you can paint the year or your dog’s name on the front or back.
  • I tied a ribbon through my hole and then used a glue gun to create and attach a bow for added pizzazz.

Get Prepared: Before you get started, you’ll need some paw molds. I used these silicone molds from Amazon. They’re safe for the freezer and oven—a good investment.

homemade dog treats recipes

Yogurt Layer: Using a measuring cup and a spoon, pour in the yogurt layer to fill the tray halfway. It’s a good idea to tap the tray on the counter to release any air bubbles. Place in freezer.

Raspberry Layer: Once your yogurt layer has frozen enough, make your raspberry layer. Blend together frozen raspberries and water.

homemade dog treats recipes

Add Honey (Optional): Although I didn’t add honey to my dog treats, you could stir some into either or both layers. Consider your dog’s preferences. Many dogs love plain yogurt so there’s no need to add sweetener.

Freeze: Freeze your silicone molds until they’re completely frozen.

Feed: Consider that the red color may stain carpet, so give to your dog on tile, a towel, etc. Unfurtunately, my dog doesn’t like healthy foods so he had a few licks and looked upset. (To be fair, he was spoiled by these bacon and cheese treats the night before.) But I’m happy to report that my sister’s dog loved them!

  • 1/3 c. Plain yogurt ((I used plain, but you can also use Greek yogurt))
  • 1/2 c. Frozen raspberries ((or fresh))
  • 5 tbsp. Water

  1. Pour the yogurt into a measuring cup so that it’s easy to pour. If you’re using honey, stir in 1 tsp. Fill molds about halfway.

  2. Place trays in freezer until yogurt layer is frozen.

  3. Blend raspberries and water in a blender. If you’re using honey, add in 1 tsp.

  4. Pour over frozen yogurt layer.

  5. Place trays in freezer until frozen.

Whether your purchase cards or make your own, everyone has the same problem: What do you write?

Writing “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Holidays” before signing your name is standard—but a little boring.

We’re here to help with some dog-related cute and funny Christmas quotes for cards.

Of course, these phrases would make even more sense if there was a dog on the front of the card.

How to Funny Christmas Dog Quote Cards DIY

Funny Christmas Dog Quotes for Your Cards

Since it can be hard to find premade cards with funny Christmas dog quotes, you can consider making your own!

Steps to DIY Your own funny Christmas dog quotes

  1. Get your camera or camera phone out and take some Christmas photos of your dog. You can choose to dress him up in a dog Christmas costume, a festive collar or simply your dog as his natural self.
  2. Make a card online using your photo and print out the final version
  3. OR print out your photo and glue it to a handmade card

Tips for Taking Dog Christmas Photos for Cards

If you’re making your own dog Christmas cards, taking a photo of your dog can be the hardest part. Although every pup is adorable, not all of them are great at taking photos. Some look away for the camera while others just can’t stay still. Here’s our tips to help you get a great photo:

  • Use treats. Yep, bribery does work. Use small training treats instead of large treats so you can give him many to encourage him. Let him sniff the treat and make sure he sees where you place it. Place it near the camera, either on top of it or next to it. Knowing it’s there, he’ll stare and it and into the camera.
  • Teach basic training. Taking good photos is going to be a lot easier if your doggo knows the words “sit” and “stay.” For example, when you position him and say “stay,” if he knows a treat follows almost every command, he’s likely to listen. This way, he won’t be running around or looking away in the middle of a shot.
  • Tire him. Your doggo is a lot less likely to keep moving if he’s already drained of his energy. Plan an activity before your Christmas card dog photoshoot. This could be a long walk, an intense game of tug-of-war, or anything else that gets him physically and mentally stimulated.
  • Take many photos. You can’t take 10 or even 20 photos and expect there’s going to be a winner. It can take many shots to get the best one. Trust me, it always takes me longer than expected.
  • Take a break. Going with the point above, since dog photoshoots can take a lot of time, take breaks between to allow your dog to relax. If you want several different types of photos, consider breaking the photoshoot up into 2 or more days.

47 Christmas Gifts for Dogs That’ll Make Their Tag Wag Vigorously | 2021 Guide

0
christmas gifts for dog lovers

My dog loves to open up gifts at Christmas.

I don’t mean just receiving them, I mean actually opening them up.

I’ll wrap them up in soft tissue paper and hand him the gift.

He’ll give it a few sniffs and then use his paws to rip it open.

For that reason, I always get my dog gifts for his birthday and Christmas. I love to see his happy face when he sees his new present.

From toys, treats, clothes and accessories—there’s so many options, but not all are worthy as gifts. We’re narrowing it down to the top 32 things to get your dog this holiday. Since all these can be found on Amazon, almost everyone can order them and get them before the holiday with plenty to time to spare!

Dog Gifts: What to Consider

  • Personality— What does your dog like? Is he more of a squeaky toy dog? Or does he prefer tug-of-war type games? Or perhaps he enjoys interactive toys to pass his days. Keep his playful personality in mind when selecting toys.
  • Dietary restrictions— Treats are also a great gift, but keep in mind your dog’s likes and dislikes. Is he sensitive to any ingredients? Does she have any favorite flavors?
  • Wrapping— If your dog is like mine, he may love to open up his gifts. If you want, try it out for yourself. Although my dog could open regular wrapping paper, it’s easiest to do on his own using tissue paper.
  • Splitting Gifts— If you have more than one doggo, you may wish to split up treat gifts into their own individual packages. This way, they can both open up their gifts and you don’t need to spend money on an extra bag.
  • Sizing— There’s a few doggy clothing options on this list. If you choose one, here’s a few tips to get the sizing right. Instead of randomly purchasing by guessing, use a fabric tape measure (or string and regular measure) to get your dog’s dimensions. Then, compare them to the brand’s sizing chart. Also, check reviews to see what sizing worked for similar sized breeds. If you want, you can sort the reviews by pictures to get a better idea.

Pawsative Ruffview:The ice cream was a hit. I bought this for my dog for her birthday. She loved it. Even my cats got to taste it and they liked it. And …. don’t tell anyone, but because of the ingredients, I licked the spoon to see what it tasted like. I’m impressed. #10 Dog DNA Test

Gifts for dog owners

What type of dog is your pup? Finally get the answers this year with a dog DNA test.

Pawsative Ruffview:We sent our puppy’s DNA in for testing just days after we rescued her. She was called a “Beagle mix” and we had just lost our beloved Beagle to cancer. We knew she wasn’t very Beaglish (except for the one floppy ear) but she doesn’t act like the Jack Russell everyone thought she was mixed with. It took 10 weeks to get the result but Embark communicated several times that they were working on it, it just takes longer for mixed dogs. And she is REALLY mixed. Now, when people at the dog park ask what kind of dog she is I just whip out my phone and show them her family tree. I should probably get a commission from Embark because I’ve sent them so many customers, lol.
It’s also good to know that she has NO genetic predisposition to any diseases. I recommend this test highly to anyone who is concerned or just curious about their fur baby.”

Get the Dog DNA Test for $189

#12 Gumby Dog Toy

christmas gifts for dogs

If you don’t want to spend an arm and a leg on dog gifts, this is one of our cheapest recommendations. Gumby is a random… green thing? that’s plush-filled and comes with a squeaker. To be honest, we’re not really sure what it’s supposed to be but it has so many excellent reviews.

Pawsative Ruffview: “Gumby has been in my home for about two weeks now. My dog grabbed Gumby out of my hand when I took it out of the box and it has become his new favorite toy. Everywhere that he goes in the house, Gumby is hanging out of his mouth. If he is laying down somewhere, Gumby isn’t far away. He treats this toy different than the other ones that I have purchased for him. It’s not a chew toy to him and he doesn’t throw it around. He just holds it in his mouth. All the time. It’s just odd but we are going with it because it seems to make him happy.”

Pawsative Ruffview:Bar none, the brick puzzle is the best toy/treat/activity item I have ever, ever purchased for my 9 1/2 lb Yorkie. Piper is totally food motivated; willful, stubborn, and way too smart! This puzzle is a perfect size, extremely durable (believe me, Pipe beats the s%#* out of it), just difficult enough to keep her attention and desire, but not so much as to frustrate her.”

Pawsative Ruffview:I have a 7 month old Corgi puppy and this was his favorite toy out of all his toys he got for Christmas! He loves it so much that I have to put it up and away just so I can sleep. It’s sturdy and not way too noisy. (I live in an apartment). His toy preference is for toys that make noise instead of plush toys without squeakers. It’s lasted a whole week of play without any problems unlike another toy he already tore up, so it seems durable, at least for small to medium breeds.”

Get the Wabble Ball for $11.99

#18 Pet Fountain

dog fountain

Your dog will love being able to get a fresh sip whenever they please.

Pawsative Ruffview:This is by far the best Pet Water Fountain I have gotten! We have gone thru about 10 before this one! This fountain, is easy set up, easy filter change, and best of all..the design is such that pet hair does not get in the bottom in the water, bc the filter traps it up top!!”

Get the Pet Fountain for $26.99

#19 Treat Throwing Dog Camera

christmas gifts for dogs

If you work away from your dog, give him a gift that he can use every day. This camera allows you to see and hear your dog from your smartphone. Since the audio is two-way, he can hear your praise too! It can also throw out small treats whenever you want. If you want to see other options, read our Full-Guide on the Best 6 Dog Cameras According to Reviews.

Pawsative Ruffview:I love being able to watch my pug literally just sleeping for seven hours a day and my coworkers really enjoy the constant updates of me telling them where my pug is sleeping and forcing them to watch his small, fawn body laying in the same spot. I have learned that my cat must leave the house when I go to work because I never catch her on the camera. Maybe she has a job? It would be nice if she paid some rent. The treat shooting mechanism shoots small treats, which is fine for him, well maybe not for him because he’d prefer it shot pizza slices, but they’re the proper size treats for a smaller dog.”

Get the Dog Camera for $199

#20 12-Pack of Adorable Dog Toys

christmas gifts for dogs

Pawsative Ruffview:They are all stuffed animals, so creative too in the choice of animals. My little Shih Tzu loves them and they all have squeakers in them. Well worth the price, just watch your dog if it is a chewer. Mines a squeaker and gentle on toys. He was so excited at Christmas for his new presents and plays with them a lot. I only gave him 2 to start with until he gets bored with them.”

#22 Hiding Squeaky Squirrel Toy

christmas gifts for dogs

Smart pups are going to love this interactive toy. You simply place the small squirrels inside their tree trunk and watch your dog try to find and get them out. The large size is perfect for big breeds while the mini size is ideal for little runts 🙂

Pawsative Ruffview:My dog LOVES this toy. I gave it to her for Christmas and it’s still the only thing she wants to play with. Usually she gets bored with toys in a week. It’s been about four weeks and she still loves her hedgehogs. It didn’t take her long to figure out how to get the toys out. It used to keep her busy for a while but now it takes about 10 seconds for her to get them all out. She’s gotten very fast at getting the hedgehog’s out. #27 Wild Bear Knotted Toy by Kong Christmas Toy

christmas kong toy

Kong is one of my favorite dog toy brands because it takes my dog A LOT longer to destroy them. Rather than being filled with regular plush, it has a knotted rope inside, making it good for tough chewers. Since the outside is still covered in soft fabric, my pup likes it as much as plush (sometimes he gets bored with hard canvas material toys). This is one of my top recommendations!

Pawsative Ruffview:I bought this for my 8 week old Dane puppy. It quickly became his go to toy. It’s been his favorite from the day he came home. He’s now 12 weeks and believe me, it’s gotten a LOT of abuse!! Lol, he gnaws, shakes & tugs at this poor bear for hours every day and it STILL looks great! No tears, unless you count the fact that he’s managed to loosen a couple of the decorative patches that tempted Ruger enough that he felt they needed to be removed. He hasn’t managed it yet, but give him time! They’re only to make the bear cuter, just cosmetic.”

Get the Kong Teddy Bear Toy for $19.10

I actually ordered a men’s small for the sweater because I didn’t see women’s in the one that I wanted, and it worked out great. I ordered the 14” length for my dog, also fit pretty well. It can be hard to find things that fit the lil guy, he is a beagle but a mix, his legs are long and skinny and he’s only 22 lbs. Just measure your dog’s back like they say and make your best guess.”

The pups wait out the sun with games, training, and lots of naps. Since buying the DogPacer, my dogs have stopped pacing the house every afternoon, bored out of their minds. Does the dog lover in your life wonder what breed her rescue is? This dog DNA test will finally give her the answer! It also provides health screening and can help connect you with your pup’s distant relatives! Yes, it’s like ancestory for doggos.

#19 Dog Lover Adult Coloring Book

Gifts for dog owners

If your friend is also a creative, a dog-themed adult coloring book could be a great idea. We recommend wrapping it up with a new box of crayons, pencil crayons or markers for a complete gift!

Pawsative Ruffview:I am 50 years old and I still love to color. When I saw this coloring book of dogs I knew that I had to buy it. I owned a dog boarding and grooming facility up until last November when I sold it. So I’m a little partial to dogs and had to have this to color. The pages are thick so the color does not bleed through to the next page. There is every breed of dog that you can think of in this book. This book is what I call “easy coloring”. Not a lot of tiny little places to color, most are larger. Even though I love this coloring book, I think small kids would do really good with coloring these dogs.”

Get the Coloring Book for $5.99

#20 Doggy Colognedog lover gifts

If your friend’s dog smells like sh!t, help them out by handing them some doggy cologne. Not only is this a great dog lover gift, but it’s super useful too.

Pawsativer Ruffview:This dog cologne is awesome. I could easily use it on my own body, but I want every bit of the order to be used on my little 7 month old tom-girl. I’ve been looking for this ‘particular scent that a blond film star sold in brushed aluminium cans like this one, almost 20 years ago. This is the one! Your dog or puppy will smell wonderful. A powdery scent with none of that overpowering chemical smell that most dog scents have, even when there is “baby” in the name. It lasts about 24 hours. Even the dogs love it. Amazing scent.

You can get the dog cologne here.

This set includes a mold your friend can put their dog’s paw in. From there, they can do whatever they want with it. But we think using it as a Christmas ornament is the best and cutest idea.

Pawsativer Ruffview:Our ornaments are drying at the moment. This was so fun to do! I bought three of these; one as a gift for a friend and two for our dogs. After reading reviews for this I bought two packages, since we have a golden retriever and a husky. One package would definitely have been enough. We had enough left over to give the rest to mom for her chihuahua and yorkie.

This was super easy and fun! The clay worked up really easy. The dogs weren’t so sure about it and we had to redo a few times. But they came out beautiful and can’t wait to hang them on the tree!

So if you don’t like “FITTED” T-shirts, this shirt is not for you because you will think it’s too small no matter what size you get. It’s not! I originally listened to the reviews and got the next size up and it was too big and I exchanged it for the usual size I always buy….PERFECT! Do not go by the size the reviews say. They are judging size based on a box style T-shirt and this is not a box style, it’s “FITTED”. I feel I can’t say that enough. FITTED to a woman’s curves at the waist. FITTED T-Shirt!

You can get this shirt here for $18

Gifts for dog owners

Is your friend constantly burning candles to get rid of the dog smell? Then they’ll love these candles made specifically for that purpose. Coming in 20+ fragrances these soy candles can burn up to 60 hours to mask scents.

Pawsative Ruffview:I have multiple dogs in the house and am always concerned that it smells like that to visitors even cleaning everyday. I have use other candles and melts that add a pleasant smell to the underlying odor, but One Fur All Pet House Candles do better. I have been able to leave the house for hours and when I first open the door, on my return, I don’t smell dog. We recently had a house full of people (many of them pet parents) over for Christmas dinner and it was actually commented “Your house smells really nice. How do you keep the dog smell out?” I laughed and told them I was just wondering if the candles were working. I guess I got the BEST answer.

Gifts for dog owners

How about some doggy slippers to go with their matching pajamas? These fuzzy, comfy slippers feature a dog face and come in varying canine designs.

Pawsative Ruffviews:Besides these slippers being super adorable they are really freaking soft and comfortable! The plush and inside base are super soft and nice on your feet, they keep my feet nice and warm when I am wearing them around the house. The outside base is rubber, so you can definitely wear these around or if you need to go outside to do something, they won’t get wet since it isn’t a plush bottom (which is great in my opinion).

#1 Roll Up Sleeves and Tuck In

Easily change the look of a standard t-shirt by rolling up the sleeves. To keep it simple and classy, tuck the shirt into a pair of jeans.

#2 Tie Back

We love the look of a t-shirt tied at the back. Pull the shirt as tight as you can in the back. Use the loose fabric to make a knot. This is a great t-shirt styling option for petite people who find many shirts long.

#3 Tie Front

You can also easily tie a shirt at the front for a different look. Pull the shirt as tight as you can in the front. Use the loose fabric to make a knot.

#5 Pair with Skirt

Graphic tees took even cuter when paired with a casual skirt. Tie it at the back or front if your skirt is high-rise.

#6 Pair with Shorts

For another casual look, pair your t-shirt with shorts. If it’s too big to tuck into your shorts, tie it at the back or front.

#7 Pair with Leggings or Sports Shorts

For an effortless outfit, wear your t-shirt long with a pair or leggings or sports shorts. It’s a relaxed, casual, comfy look perfect for running errands in.
